Katie Canfield - Program Lead
Born and raised in California, Katie Canfield earned her B.A. in Spanish and Global Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara. Her career in the wine industry began during her last year at university while studying abroad in Santiago, Chile. Since then, Katie has lived in Rioja (Logroño), Burgundy (Dijon), and the UK (Manchester), studying and working in various sectors of the wine industry: production (including harvests in Chile, France, and Napa Valley), wine writing, retail, hospitality, and distribution. Since her move back to California in 2014, Katie has led marketing and communications for the international portfolios of Wilson Daniels, Paul Hobbs Wines, and now co-owns PR, marketing, and event agency O’Donnell Lane. Katie holds a M.Sc. degree in Wine Business and WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wine and Spirits. She serves on the board of Bâtonnage Forum—a nonprofit organization focused on supporting women in wine—and has served as Marketing & Communications Program Lead for the Bâtonnage Mentorship Program since 2022.

Maria Calvert - Level 2
Maria is a dedicated professional with over a decade of experience in public relations. With a background in agency and in-house communications, she brings a rounded perspective to reputation management, focusing on media relations, integrated communications strategy, and cross-business collaboration. Before transitioning to wine, Maria was the V.P. of Global Communications at a currency broker on Wall Street. After several years in finance, in 2018, she decided to follow her palate to the wine industry, joining a renowned public relations agency in New York City, leading integrated communications campaigns for institutions/B2B and wine brands worldwide. Today, Maria's time is between NYC and Washington D.C., working as a Public Relations Consultant and pursuing the WSET Level 2 certification.
Maria co-founded the nonprofit organization Hispanics in Wine, which amplifies and supports Hispanics/LatinX alcohol and hospitality industry professionals. She also co-created the annual LatinX Wine Summit, a one-day event that serves as an educational vehicle to share the impact of the Hispanic/LatinX contributions to the wine industry. Her dedication to diversity and inclusion in the wine industry has been featured in national and international media publications, including recognition as 40 under 40 Tastemaker's List by Wine Enthusiast, Wine Business Monthly's Wine Industry Leaders 2021, and Imbibe's 75 People to Watch in 2022.

Katie Calhoun - Level 2
Katie has devoted her entire career to the wine and spirits industry, and today brings over 30 years of public relations expertise to Calhoun & Company Communications. Through her work with a wide variety of wine and spirits companies, Katie has developed a broad perspective on the industry and built strong relationships in the press.
Katie’s palate and tasting skills have earned her a place among top wine and spirits professionals as a national competition judge. She has judged at the Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, Monterey County Wine Competition, and San Francisco World Spirits Competition; she also served as a regular taster at Wine & Spirits Magazine for over a decade.
Katie’s wine industry affiliations include membership with Women for WineSense, Family Winemakers of California, Society of Wine Educators, Association of African American Vintners, Women of the Vine & Spirits and serves as a mentor for Bâtonnage. In 2023 Katie joined the UC Davis Enology & Viticulture Executive Leadership Board.
Mitalee Gupte - Level 2
Mitalee has over 15 years of global experience in luxury marketing at LVMH, specializing in wines and spirits across India, Singapore, New York & California. Her expertise lies in developing dynamic marketing strategies to deliver commercial excellence in complex business scenarios by combining in-depth product/brand knowledge with a keen understanding of consumers and consumption trends across different market segments and demographics.
Mitalee’s penchant for wine, especially champagne and bubbles, is deeply rooted in her family’s epicurean traditions of celebrating the everyday. Having completed a Bachelors in Mass Media from the University of Mumbai, with a major in Advertising & Communications, her career journey began with advertising, and found the perfect segway into marketing at LVMH. She is now based in Napa and is responsible for Marketing for the Brand Home, Club and CRM at Chandon California.
Being a mom of twin toddler boys, she is a strong proponent for supporting working mothers, adding more diversity to the wine business, and working on sustainable marketing solutions for brands. She speaks English and French, in addition to 4 Indian regional languages and holds a WSET Level 2 certification. She is the on the board of directors for a local non-profit called Napa Moms, supporting a community of mothers in the valley.
Juliana Colangelo - Level 2
Juliana heads up the California division of Colangelo & Partners, the leading wine and spirits communications agency in the U.S. With over nearly 10 years in the agency, Juliana has managed multiple teams and divisions, as well as managed the execution of integrated communications for leading international and domestic wine companies such as Frescobaldi, Far Niente Wine Estates, Charles Krug and Jackson Family Wines. Since 2016, Juliana has led the development of the California office, bringing on representation of some of the industry’s leading wine companies, helping to increase the agency’s domestic business share and developing a talented team of 15 communications professionals for the agency’s domestic division. Along the way, Juliana has become a leading voice for the industry in marketing, communications strategy and career development serving as a mentor with Batonnage, and leading the agency’s pro bono initiatives with organizations such as the United Somm Foundation and the LatinX Wine Summit. Juliana completed her WSET Level 3 and her eMBA in Wine Business with Sonoma State University and in 2021 was named one of PR News’ Top Women in PR in the “Rising Stars” category.
Katie Owen - Level 2
Katie Owen is a trained Winemaker (MS Oenology, University of Adelaide) and holds the WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits. She is currently the Director of Marketing for Domaine de la Côte, Sandhi Wines, Evening Land Vineyards, and Piedrasassi Wine & Bread. Katie previously worked in winemaking in Australia and the Napa Valley, as a Sommelier in various Los Angeles restaurants, and helped to lead product teams at two budding wine startups: Winc Wines and Nocking Point Wines. Today, Katie works with Raj Parr and Sashi Moorman to further develop the brands of their four wineries and increase direct to consumer sales through digital channels.
Marlena Glenn Blitz - Level 2
Currently, Marlena is the Director of Partnerships at Provi coupling her client relationship, strategic planning and project management skills. Previous to her role at Provi, Marlena had over seven years of experience at Beverage Media (including two years at SevenFifty) where she combined her love of people and problem solving to wear many hats as “Marketing and Communications Manager.” A true utility player, Marlena has worked concurrently on business and strategy while managing marketing and communications, contributing to editorial, and flexing her commercial savvy. With a passion and degree in theater arts and psychology from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Marlena brings her insatiable intellectual curiosity to every element of the beverage alcohol industry and loves to connect with all three tiers of the trade.
Katie Dailey - Level 2
Katie Dailey is a Certified Sommelier, bubbly lover, and mom. After earning her degree in Economics at the University of California at Davis, where she also worked internships at small wineries in both winemaking and finance, Katie began her formal wine career with a role in retail sales for Gallo Sales Company. Katie excelled within Gallo, gaining experience over the last decade in Event Marketing, Hospitality and, most recently, as Associate Public Relations Manager.
In one of her proudest career achievements, in 2022, Katie helped launch J Vineyards & Winery’s innovative Shifting the Lens culinary program, which supports inclusivity by showcasing diverse cuisines and unique, personal perspectives from guest chefs in the winery's culinary tasting space, The Bubble Room. Shifting the Lens returned in spring 2023 with a residency from Chef Tu David Phu and will continue in September with Chef Ana Castro’s traditional Mexican cuisine.
Throughout her career, Katie has devoted time to continuing her wine and spirits education, earning her Certified Specialist of Wine, Certified Specialist of Spirits and Certified Sommelier certificates. Katie currently lives in San Francisco with her husband, Michael. Together, they welcomed their son Hudson in March.
